Durante las sesiones de grabación de "A New World Record" Mary Thomas trabajó en la parte de opera, Kelly fué elegido para las presentaciones en vivo, yendo a sus raices como Nancy Sinatra, ¡impresionante!.

Esta pregunta ocasionó muchas controversias, algunos decian que eran palabras en alemán o en danés, otra gente de Australia me decia que Jeff cantaba Bruce y no Grroosss. Kelly Groucutt una vez contestó que era una palabra cómica sin nungun significado, no obstante esto es confirmado por Jeff Lynne en las notas de Flashback. (Discovery) "No chicos, Lynne no esta cantando "Bruce" en los coros de "Don't Bring Me Down". "No, es 'groos' - apenas una palabra que compuse en el estudio para llenar un agujero. Mack - nuestro ingeniero en Musicland - dijo, ¿Cómo sabes estot?' él me dijo que 'groos' sonaba justo como una palabra en alemán por 'Saludos'. Pero cada uno la oye como 'Bruce', y en todos los shows terminé cantandola de la siguiente manera".

Mary Thomas comenzó con un "Oops!" porque no estaba lista para empezar, esto le fue cómico a Jeff y lo mantuvo. Entonces cantaron en Alemán "...weit in der Ferne, man hoert, man hoeret die Musik...". De acuerdo a la traducción de Jeff Lynne es "sigue, sigue la música esta sonando".
